Battery C - Civil War Memorial
Preserved Civil War earthworks from the 1863 Battle of Helena with interpretive markers and hilltop views.

Battery C is one of four Union fortifications that defended Helena during the Civil War. On July 4, 1863, Confederate forces attacked Helena in an attempt to relieve pressure on Vicksburg, but were repulsed by Union defenders at these positions.
The site preserves the original earthwork fortifications and features interpretive markers explaining the battle's significance. From the hilltop position, visitors can see the strategic importance of Helena's location overlooking the Mississippi River.
The Battle of Helena was one of the few Civil War engagements fought on Independence Day, and the Union victory helped secure control of the Mississippi River corridor. Battery C is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
