Frequently Asked Questions
Location & Area
Where we are, how to get here, and what to do in Helena.
Where is the inn located?
The Edwardian Inn is on Biscoe Street in Helena, Arkansas, in the Mississippi Delta on the west bank of the Mississippi River. It is approximately 65 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee.
How do I get to the inn from Memphis?
Take US-61 South from Memphis. Stay on the Mississippi side of the river through Tunica County -- this is the Blues Highway and the most direct route. You will cross the Mississippi River bridge into Helena. The drive is approximately 70 miles and takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes depending on where in Memphis you start. No interstate required. The inn is on Biscoe Street in historic downtown Helena, about half a mile from the river levee.
What is there to do in Helena?
Helena offers rich Delta history and culture: the King Biscuit Blues Festival (October), Delta blues heritage, Civil War history including the Battle of Helena (1863), historic downtown walking tours, the Great River Road cycling route along the Mississippi, and access to the river itself. We are happy to suggest itineraries based on your interests.
When is the King Biscuit Blues Festival?
King Biscuit is held each October in downtown Helena. The festival draws roughly 10,000 attendees and is one of the oldest continuous blues festivals in the United States. We recommend booking early as rooms fill well in advance.
Where can we eat near the inn?
Helena has several local options we recommend: Pasquale's Tamales (weekend only and a local institution), Patio Mexican Restaurant, Delta Fish Market Bar & Grill, Biscuit Row BBQ, Downtown Bar and Grill, Delta Que & Brew, Ridge City Roasters, and Delta Dirt Distillery. Hours and availability change -- we can provide current information when you arrive.
What is the best time of year to visit?
Spring (March through May) and fall (September through November) are the most comfortable seasons in the Arkansas Delta -- mild temperatures, manageable humidity, and active activity calendars. October is peak season for the King Biscuit Blues Festival. Summer (June through August) is hot and humid, as you would expect from the Deep South, though the inn is fully air-conditioned and guests who visit for the history and food find it perfectly manageable. Winter is mild compared to northern states, with occasional cold fronts. There is no bad time to visit Helena -- the inn, the river, and the history are here year-round.
