Historical Note
Daniel C. Govan settled near Helena in 1853 to farm. He fought at Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Missionary Ridge and became a Confederate brigadier general in 1863. After the war he farmed near Helena again. In 1894 he became an Indian agent in Washington State. He died in 1911.
